Run Cleaner A and it will report no errors after completion then run Cleaner B and it will find another few hundred errors that have apparently appeared out of nowhere. Hence one application will leave behind records that another would have removed, and it's even possible that a poor application will do more harm than good by incorrectly removing references that should have been left alone. The major, and justified, complaint about registry cleaners is that they all seem to adopt different definitions of 'error'. There may indeed be a slight performance hit as a result, but we're not talking about things grinding to a halt, here. If you've been running the same version of Windows for a long time, you will most likely have acquired thousands of records that aren't needed any more. This isn't necessarily Windows' fault, it's laziness on the part of the software writers who should remove these references when their uninstaller program runs and make sure that excessive registry references aren't created in the first place. Unless you are using software to record and monitor installs and uninstalls, you'll quickly collect, at the very least, references to software that no longer exists on your machine. ![]() ![]() Over time, and a very short time, too, quite often the Windows registry will fill up with clutter. In any case, it may be worth mentioning again, here, that nobody needs a registry cleaner anyway. Yes, this is a known rogue, apparently, well spotted and reported.
